I have a 1999 ford contour 4 cylinder engine.

It has leaked out all the freon, so we took it to a repair shop to find the leak.

I was told that it was leaking at the coil that is under the dashboard.

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me how to get to it to replace or repair it.

My car book does not give that kind of info.

Thanks, JR

This is definitely not something you should ever attempt. Not only does the entire dash have to be removed to even get at the HVAC housing but if you have no A/C knowledge you can both get hurt and cause a lot of damage to the car.

JR: Ditto with HT for this. The reason it's not in your car book is that if on paper you couldn't carry it! Mega tons to know to do that without compilcations - and the danger factor.

Make dang sure that the evaporator is leak! Get a second opinion if needed. This is so expensive it's shocking! Parts are cheap but the time is crazy. I don't have the time book for this but expect a comma in the labor charge alone.

Try YouTube for watching someone do one for the exact car and item. It's called an evaporator which is a coil but without correct term you'll get lost searching,

PS: It gets worse. Plastic stuff breaks just digging in and bails/clips to plug in wiring bust too....

Thought it was up there. Here - shops can be as high as $120US/hr by book plus parts markup and hazmat disposal fees! Yikes - quick math,

That could be list price of parts/materials + $936 base labor plus a flat rate for final vac and charge IF it didn't also take out the compressor is operated on too low a charge it's expensive and if it did it's a nightmare of an expense,
