99 Suburban AC not running Sign In

Hello, I hope someone might have some direction for this.

99 GMC Suburban
c1500
5.7L

The compressor does not start when I turn the switch on. Ocassionally it will start up and run for a few minutes.
I replaced the relay in the fuse box, no help.
When I jumpered across the relay connections, the compressor started and continued to run, blowing nice cold air.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Everything should always start with a pressure check of both high and low pressures to determine if there is any issue with refrigerant level or anything else. One thing you can check quickly is the low pressure cycling switch on the accumulator. Unplug it and jump the wires together with a paper clip to test to see if the compressor runs. If so, replace the switch. If not, you will have to look into the wiring further.

If original the Delphi compressor was famouse for body gasket leaks. If it's oily or even green dye showing that was used on many when new.

Just how do you know the LPCO switch is good? It's just an ON/OFF switch and if pressure is below 40ish won't allow compressor to come on. If low on refrigerant that switch would sense super low pressure in a second if compressor engaged and shut it down.

What are the pressures and temps when taken. Need them all, Static (just sitting there) and with just front system requested if a dual what #s at what RPM and temps did you see? Those pressures are pertinent with compressor engaged - not when it's off as off you are just reading a static pressure,

Re: 99 Suburban AC not running Sign In

I had a friend who was helping me out and he had the gauges. I will try and contact him and get the readings from him.
Will reply to the post when I have that information. I believe he is out of town for the weekend though. Thanks for all the replies.
