99 S-10 Blazer.. Heat not working!

Ok, so I have the S-10 size Blazer 99, with the 4.3L Vortec.. Anyways.. My truck keeps losing my coolant. Somewhere back near the firewall I think.. Heat works great as long as I keep fluid in it, but leaks out running or not, overnight. When fluids are low, my dash gauge shows my heat up twice what it does with fluid and heat working.. Any ideas? I've already gotten a new heater core, but beings I have to remove the dash to replace it, I'd like to know if that even sounds like the problem, or what I should be checking first . Thx..James

Pretty likely that the intake is leaking. Very common problem here. It will leak even if the car is not running and will leak in the spot you described or on the front. Fairly tough DIY job. Jeff

eww.. thats not good.. that worse than removing the dash to replace the core? and will i probably have to replace the intake or maybe a gasket problem?? it has a little over 110k miles runs great.. maybe throw a leak sealant in it till the weather warms up? lol gonna go see if i can pinpoint the leak now..grr

Leak sealent is a bad idea. It will cause a hole host of problems. Probably just a gasket but sometimes the intake needs to be replaced depending on the corrosion level. I have seen it both ways. Jeff

Water pump is much easier than intake. I wounder if this is the only leak? Water pump won't leak done by the firewall as your first post mentioned. Either way a water pump job is much more DIY friendly. Good Luck Jeff
