'98 Mazda 626 AC stopped working/freon sprayed on and around radiator Sign In

Hi guys. I drive a '98 Mazda 626 2.0 4 cylinder with 145,000 miles on it.

For the past several months my AC has had a slow leek. I've been refilling it with 134a freon that has a leak sealer and a green color to it so you can detect where the leak is. I've filled it about once every three weeks and haven't been able to determine where the leak is. Today my AC completely stopped working. I looked under the hood and saw green freon on my radiator and around the front end of the car so I'm thinking it's my condenser or one of the lines leading to it.

My question is this. Since my compressor is 11 years old, should I consider replacing it since I'm having work done on my AC? How long do they usually last? Also, I checked on ebay and I see there is quite a range in compressor prices. How much can I expect to pay for a decent compressor? Finally, can you give me any other tips in regards to this issue. Thanks a million in advance.

Paul

The first thing I think you should do is get the vehicle professionally diagnosed. You really have none of the necessary facts about this. What you have been doing is probably one of the worst things you can do to a system. Repeated chargings will almost always result in a ruined compressor. Putting sealer in the system only leads to clogging the system and contaminating everyone's recovery equipment. Air conditioning repairs are not for the novice. You can cause twice as many problems than you have now.
You may have started out with a condenser leak but you could have a lot more problems now. It also needs to be inspected using a U/V light to pinpoint the leak more accurately.

Use of a sealer ONCE is bad enough - THREE times! Kiss that system goodbye - mega thousands now possible,

What can I do to minimize the costs at this point? What will have to be replaced? Should I buy the parts myself?

I'm not there of course so extent of damage is unknown. Some sealers are moisture reactive and just ruin every part involved if they don't work. Nice products huh?

You've put so much of sh*t in it the car is worthless. Go get a new car 'cause you wrecked it A/C wise.

Not to be hard on you as info for Bazooka Gun Fixes lacks and they (sellers) should be liable or at least accountable for selling the sh*t.

It stinks! You need to flush out everything with flush or lacquer thinner and still could fail 100%

In short - you wrecked the car A/C wise,

T

As I stated earlier, go get the car professionally diagnosed as you should have done in the first place. Just be sure to tell them all the history.
