97 toyota tercel blower motor issues.

97 toyota tercel blower motor issues.

I'll give you the whole story i guess. My heater stopped blowing air it still had heat but no fan. First i thought it was a relay I have eliminated that by trying another. After that I was told it was possibly the blower motor resistor I've replaced that. I've checked the wires those are good. To get at my blower motor i have to remove the dash and pull out 3 screws and the motor drops. The first time i pulled the motor i shook it and it started right up so I put it back in thinking my problem was solved. After installing it it stopped again which annoyed me. So i pulled it apart again shook it started right up again so i turned it off turned it back on and nothing. I gave it a very small push and it started right up. So i took it completely out and took off the fan blades. While doing that a bunch of black dust came out of the motor so i looked inside there is so much crud in there it's having a hard time getting it's initial start so i think i need to clean it. I Know i have to use electric motor cleaner and probably some air. What i want to know is there a place i should grease or oil it and how do i clean the area where the brushes connect?

You have a bad motor, replace it.

OK after cleaning it out and looking at it some more i now fully understand what is going on. Yes i will need a new blower motor, but at the moment i can't one but i do have it rigged in such a way that i will be able to use it untill i can afford to get a new motor. Basicly whats going on is that there is a segmented copper surface that the brushes run on that direct electricity into the electromagnet without shorting it out, which is what makes it turn. On my motor i have 2-3 of the copper segments in a row that are worn out to the point that they are no longer conducting electricity, so when i push the motor it gets past the bad sections of the copper onto the good ones where it begins to spin and then it gets going enough to be able to continue spinning past the bad section and then back onto the good section. I'm one of those people that aren't happy knowing that something is bad unless i know why it is bad.

Anyone know of a place I can find a list of Interchangeable parts?
I know a blower motor from a Toyota Tercel years 95-98 will work for my 97 but I'm wondering if there is another model car altogether that would have a compatible motor because I have checked every junkyard within 100 miles of me and no one has a blower motor for a 95-98 Toyota Tercel.
The cheapest I can find online is 35$ and i can't swing that right now.

Forget used for that. If $35 bucks is a stopper you probably should consider a bicycle and give up owning a car!

Good advice Tom AND Hammer! When the brushes wear THROUGH the commutator, call it a day, pop for a new motor for probably less than a tank of gas. Get over it!

You mistake me. I just can't get a new motor right this moment even though i would really like too, not until i get paid in another two weeks. I figure while i wait i can do some research to find out the least expensive way as I've already spent 25 on the resistor which probably isn't bad but the dealership i got it from doesn't do refunds on electrical components so I will just have to wait a couple of weeks. I would prefer to get new motor but i rather not spend 60 bucks on it that's why i was looking for compatible vehicles.

Site is free to use and even moderators don't know who you are unless told. Took months to build this site and I'm not a very good computer geek.

What the man told you is true. If $60 is out of your range for repair, then you really should consider a bicycle. All your crazy ideas to try to salvage a wasted blower motor are just nonsense.
We don't mind giving out free advice but don't waste our time with your silliness. You had your answer on the first post.
