97 civic high side high low side normal.

97 civic high side high low side normal. Sign In

97
honda
civic
1.6
184000

low side pressure at idle 28
high side pressure at idle 210
ambient temp 78
low side pressure 3000 rpm 7
high side pressure 3000rpm 160
idling in shop vent temp 65 idle
in shop at 3000 rpm temp may get to 55-60
high way can get to 50
has new condenser. compressor. drier. evaporator. expansion valve. all lines have been flushed.
fan works but when misted with water low goes to 10 and high goes to 160. is there a restriction or is the fan not pulling enough air. all parts are from factory air. fan is only original part.

Were these things done in response to the problem or did the problem start since? Were all these things changed at the same time?

Going off your ambient, temp idle pressures are normal. If the condenser inlet temp is higher that 78° then your high side is low.
What was the amount of the charge?
With this type of problem I would be tempted to recover the refrigerant & recharge the system to be sure you aren't working with a low charge due to leak or undercharge...

I would question the amount of charge too but if those readings are with the proper charge, then it does look like a restriction.

stopped blowing cold. found bad reed valves in compressor. changed condenser. compressor. drier and expansion valve. also flushed lines.

still did not cool properly but was better. replaced evap thinking it had a resriction.

system was vacuumed for 45 minutes and was charged with 22 oz of r134. with a robinair machine.

the shop also has a 97 civic and i checked its pressures at the same time as mine and it had 27 low side 160 high side and 42 degrees at the vent

low side line is cold and sweating.
high side is too hot to touch at top of condenser
have checked for kinks in lines but dont see any

The charge looks pretty good.

A rule of thumb for head pressures is to measure the temp right in front of the condenser and times that by 2.6 and that number should be very close to what your high side reading is...

Try pinching off both heater hoses & see if that drops your outlet temps, it's possible you may be getting some hot air mix from the heater....

I believe you have a restriction. It could be the expansion valve or the drier. Feel the temp of the liquid with the system running. If it's warm to the touch, that indicates travel and working properly. If it is room temp, then there is no flow and confirmation of a restriction. A hot liquid line would indicate a bad condenser or fan but I don't think tha is the issue here.

Those readings to me look like something you would get from a faulty expansion valve. Sometimes we get defective TXVs on ac jobs at the shop.

i am currently getting 55 degrees when cruising.
65 degrees when idle.
sitting in the shop with identical vehicles the other car puts out 44 degrees with 115 degrees into condenser and 100 degrees out of the condenser.

my car puts out 60 degrees and has 121 degrees going in and 113 degrees out of the condenser.

this is the second condenser that ive had. 3 txvs and the fan feels strong. i even drained the system of all the oil before changing the condenser and evap and drier. then drained the compressor. to make sure i wasnt overfilled with oil coating the inside of the condenser

What you could do is swap evaporator cases with the other vehicle. Honda evaporators are simple to change anyway. I still think you might be having a TXV issue. A while back we had a rash of defective aftermarket TXVs on those that drove us nuts. We now use the dealer txv for those.

If your using an ac recovery machine or scale to charge your system, make sure its charged to .6-.65kg after vacuuming. Don't use suicide cans and taps for goodness sakes.
