So I was trying to charge my AC system and when I open the valve on my hose the can of refrigerent becomes pressurized to an extreme and doesn't seem to be letting any refrigerent into the system. Im pretty sure that its connected to the low side port because my hose should only fit on the low side port...does anyone know if the can pressurizing is normal or have any ideas???? Thanks for the help- Steve

Gotta ask the $40,000 question! What prompted you to think you needed more refrigerant and with out pressures you are really guessing. Need to know....
Ambient temp
High and low pressures
Are fans working to condenser?
Ducts working properly?
Did you bleed the line to the can tap? If not you just messed it up.
Hey - here to help but it isn't as simple as just adding oil to your engine. T

The A/C has been slowly failling on cooling the air comming into the cab. All of the other components seem to be working propersly, the clutch engages, all the fans are working, and all that good stuf, but the pressure reading on the guage was low. Hence I came to the conclusion it needed more refrigerent. If it did need more refrigerent why did the pressure on the can increase so rapidly when connected to the system??

A/C 101: The pressure in a can must exceed the low side pressure or it will do nothing! Remember that we call it the low side, suction side and all that but it is really still pressure. The cans even the 30# ones get cold and don't behave and may have to be warmed up. It's most important NOT to overcharge as it will just warm up again before the crash!! If I didn't already say hit me at home and I can send you a good charging procedures thing that is three pages long so I can't just type it all in. Be careful, T

Tom, Thanks for the input...after diagnosing the problem and looking at all the factors, I tried a different hose and valve to my low side port. The different hose worked great. I think the old hose valve was busted or something, but my system showed a little low...so I brought it up to the right pressure and now it blows ice cold. Once again thanks for the help. My next task will be to track down where the leak is at on the suppose to be sealed system and fix that. Have a great one.
