95 Honda Accord Condenser Fan Sign In

I have a 1995 Honda Accord with 115,000 miles. My mechanic told me last year that my car needed a new condenser fan because the fan was not running and suppose to run when the AC is turn on. I took the fan out and connected it directly to the battery and run fine. I put the fan back and it worked until this year when it stopped again. This time I just disconnected and reconnected the wire harness and the fan worked again. Do you think I have a bad fan motor or a bad wire harness connector?

Re: 95 Honda Accord Condenser Fan Sign In

Fan motor doesn't seem to be bad itself. Check that power gets right to it thru harness. When you put power right to it was it still in place? Just asked because if so the ground should be good or checked if you did that off the car.

Fans in most cars come on with any A/C request that can include the defrost mode. Some will wait for the high side pressure to build up indicating the compressor is in fact on. If system can't make high pressure it woundn't waste the electricity for the fan in those. If you see the Compressor on for a minute you can feel the high side hose between compressor and condenser will be warm to HOT (careful) and can forget the rest of the system for now.

Power for fan goes thru a relay and that could be bad or intermittent. I don't have a location for it but that is the likely problem. BECAREFUL NOT TO JUMP ELECTRICAL STUFF AS MANY SEND INFO TO A CAR'S COMPUTER AND CAN BURN IT OUT.

Some fans are made to work on low speed and go to high speed as needed. I don't think Honda did this but if so one or both could get wrong info as to where to be and could stay off entirely. The check on car for power rules that out,

T
