I've got a 1994 toyota corolla 1.6 engine with 215,000 miles. I lose fluid after driving for about 20 minutes. I've filled up the radiator and let it idle to hot for about ten minutes and didn't see the leak. I noticed the fan did not come on with the engine hot. Also the top hose became hot quickly but not the bottom hose. I changed the thermostat yesterday and flushed the system. I put in a bottle of stop leak and went to my son's school for 2 hours, a 10 minute drive. No problem. On the way home after 5 minutes of driving I got an explosion of liquid on my hood. When I got home I checked it after a few hours and the radiator was empty. I refilled it today and let it idle, did not see the leak. Could just the fan be the problem ? I turned on the A/C and the cooling fans worked fine. Thanks for your help

The fan could be a problem when idling but it's not necessary when at cruising speed so if it's overheating at speeds above 40MPH, then you have other problems.

It sounds like you could have a blocked up radiator, especially if you added any sealer to the system in the past. the first thing you need to do is pressure test the cooling system. The problem could also be much worse in the form of a blown head gasket. It will need some testing to determine that.

Snake oils are usually just that and cause problems.

That's a lot of miles so anything is possible, IMO,
