As you guys know I had a new a/c/ put in my truck a few months ago.. Well after having problems with my truck this week I raised the hood to look around.... So I was wondering if this should be a red flag? I am seeing grease on the pully of my a/c/ unit and it is spiting it in other places its not bad so I am curious if this is a problem thats getting ready to be bad? I can rub my finger around the pully and my finger get grease on it... Let me know thanks... This is a brand new a/c unit I bought from Oreily's and had it professionally installed...

Hi guy!

Make sure oil is coming from the compressor. Carefully clean if off and see if it returns quickly or if A/C is fading out the gas would leak faster than the oil most likely. The shaft seal is a weak spot of most compressors, new or not but less likely new. If you catch this in time and it is in fact leaking oil there it really shouldn't mean more than a warrantied compressor again dammit.

IMO if it is that, if done on time it doesn't mandate the new accumulator or a lot of games but ask about that.

MAKE SURE IT'S REALLY FROM COMPRESSOR! Return line should still be cool or sweaty as an indicator that charge is still close. When charge runs too low it has a period where it will try but the oil doesn't move well or at all to lube compressor and then it's real trouble all over again - don't have a nice word to say if that happens. Disable compressor if it quits cooling will help prevent debris from making it worse,

T

Tom it is cooling great I mean it gets very cold... Lines look normal and dryer of course gets very moist on outside.. I am not sure what I am looking at it could be from something else for all I know... I may just let it be. Thinking I am going to sell this old truck...

Hmmm? Where else could oiliness come from? Any chance of a spill, PS pump has oil in the belt system. IT MAY HAVE QUIT WHATEVER IT'S FROM?? The fact that it's blowing cold and sweaty lines is a great indication you can use it and not worry.

You can clean oils up but be real careful of wanted painted stuff with brake cleaner spray and paper towels. I'd avoid water of any sort. See how fast it might make a mess again. Certainly check all fluids just anyway.

Oil from a compressor shaft seal leak would concentrate behind the clutch. Some can have body gasket leaks too. One would sure think a gas under pressure would be leaking out to beat the band first and with it but your telling me by the cooling that isn't so.

It may have had oil spilled from replacing it and just now showing up. Normal procedure is to spin a compressor with oil in it before installation then add so it along with other things and just the moments of jockeying it into place may be it. Amazing how drop of oil can make quite a mess when dirt/dust gets to it.

Other maybees: Trans cooling lines or oil cooler(if it has one) may have a pin hole sending oil like a fine spider web line towards the belt or something?? Coolant doesn't seem to collect the dirt so much so I doubt that.

If you have a warranty on this compressor make it known NOW so there's no bull later if it really gets bad.

I know you don't have one but a sniffer would find it if leaking. I can't go by oil evidence on my own as I'm always spraying them with stuff so they dont rust and will come apart if ever needed.

If you really want to give up on the truck do it while it's cooling. I know you have a longer season than I do which is a couple more weeks of day by day maybe needing it at all.

Good luck. Hope it's just nothing but worth keeping an eye on,

Tom

Tom went by my mechanics shop today.. He looked it over and said no worries.. He said he put die in the system and he didnt see any indications of a leak there... However on the part where the belt is located it does have oil on the metal pulley even after I cleaned it all off with a rag... Still he said no worries so I guess I wont worry... See my post on car dicussions I posted it yesterday chime in on it if you would...
