93 Concorde defaults to high hot defrost Sign In

Hello and thanks for the help,
1993 Chrysler Concorde (manuf. 1-93 in Canada) with 3.5 Liter V-6 and automatic trans. 215,000 miles.
This car runs great but in the last few months a problem has started and it is getting worse all the time.
At startup the defroster comes on high hot and the controls are locked out, ( you can hit the off button but nothing happens). Then after a period of time that may be 2 minutes or 5 hours the controls start to work
again and you can switch to heat or vent or a/c, and everything works fine until the defroster decides to come on again by itself. I have been told that it might be a vacuum line or the vacuum motor on the engine side of the firewall, but I have also been told that it might be a resistor, regulator, or switch on the inside of the firewall.
That's a big difference! I don't feel like tearing the whole car apart to fix this problem. PLEASE HELP!
Thank You!

Arggh! ?? What type of control head does this use - digital? Almost everything ever made will default to defrost ducts and perhaps this adds the temp as well when things fail such that, that is the "home" position.

In that it is able to snap out of this it's just going to be a nightmare to be certain what's wrong. If digital temp and duct choice control head does it at least change or just stay the same?

AYOR - just disconnect neg battery post for a while, leave something on like hazards or something to draw current which isn't going to work while disconnected and reset the brains of it and hope that works when reconnected.

At the moment I don't quite understand both defrost and the temp - await your answers,

T
