I just got a 2011 Ford Ranger,Idon't know if I have 1 problem or 2.The blower fan only runs on high, the selector switch makes no diffrence. When the control switch is off the fan is off. Also the air flow through the vents seems too low.

The blower runs full speed in all switch selections except for off? Do you feel air blowing out the defroster or the floor when you have vent selected? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I understand you have a problem with air flow and selecting the blower fan speeds, but still need to know if the fan runs full speed in all blower speed selections except in off. Also need to know if you have air blowing out the floor or defrosters when you have the mode selected for vent. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

You have a short to ground somewhere after the blower motor. Part of the blower switch is used to turn the blower relay on. When the relay is on, power is able to get to to the blower motor. The other parts of the blower switch are used to ground the blower motor circuit. Speeds other than high are routed through a blower resistor and then through the switch. You'll probably need a wiring diagram and a test lamp or volt meter to find out where the ground side of the blower circuit is shorting at. Do a visual inspection, if possible, of the blower wiring harness. Look for wiring rubbing on metal brackets. If you can remove the blower resistor, make sure something is laying across the resistors causing a bypass. If air flow isn't leaking out defrost or floor vents when you have the mode selected for vent, you could have something blocking the inlet to the blower fan, leaves or garbage inside the blower fan, or something blocking air flow through the evaporator. Don't think that this one has a pollen filter. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

As DS pointed out it needs to be troubleshooted but after looking at the wiring diagram I would put my money on the blower resister being bad, although that is not a sure thing at all. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

my thinking is resistor too along with dirt.it's good to have like opinions before I start disassembling. it may be a couple of days before I get back to it.i'll let you know how it turns out.
