2010 Aveo Coolant Circulation Issues - Overheating

I've had my 2010 Chevy Aveo for two years, bought it with 40,000 miles and put another 30,000 on it since. It hasn't had many issues, there was a problem requiring me to change the spark plugs a few years back but nothing major, until now. During a recent trip my car began to overheat. The temperature gauge would bounce around a little and I'd pull over, put more coolant in, let it cool down then continue driving. Soon the temperature gauge would never go past half-way but the car would begin to have trouble accelerating, and when I would pull over to check things out the coolant would be boiling in it's tank. I had to continuously fill the coolant tank because it was boiling and evaporating/running out the overflow hose. It seemed like possibly a problem with the thermostat not opening to circulate the coolant after the car was warmed up so after a frantic search and $90 (it's a discontinued part??) I found and replaced the thermostat. However, this didn't fix the problem. It's been suggested that I try the water pump next but is there anything else that it could be aside from the entire radiator? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The first thing you need to do is pressure test the cooling system for leaks but you may have already done internal damage by driving it hot. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
