2008 chevy up lander Lt. A.C. Sign In

Just bought a 2008 Chevy uplander vin:1GNDV33118D113086 and the AC compressor won't turn on.
I don't have the owners manual yet so I'm limited as to the whereabouts of any other fuses or relays. I checked the relay and fuse#6(10a) I switched the relay out with the horn relay and the relay seems to be fine. Fuse #6 was blown so I replaced it and it blows within a minute or two. I'm disabled and live on a fix income so I really can't afford to take it in to the dealer. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Ty

Do you have experience servicing and troubleshooting ac systems? If not, you should take it to a shop to have it checked out. If you do have experience and tooling, what are the systems static pressures? Just to make sure that there is enough pressure in the system. You need to find out where the short is that fuse #6 protects. Does the fuse blow as soon as you put it in or when you turn on the ac?

Is this a private sale?

fuse #6 is AC clutch fuse....
how are you with wiring repairs- reading diagrams using a test light etc....
For a quick test - at least for me-- remove AC relay replace fuse - fuse will fail or not let us know...
ADVICE - take the car to auto parts store many will do FREE scans checking for codes- yes ck even if all lights are off....its FREE easy fast...

Said fuse #6 blows when replaced? OP - what tools do you have to test out the clutch even? You can just test ohms on the two prongs where you plug it in at the clutch coil on head of compressor and get an idea if that's a problem or might even be a wire chaffing or got too hot and shorting - can't know easily yet.

So far this part is just electrical operation of A/C not yet known if you just got it if it would work on the refrigerant holding items or much more about the system's condition at all.

Hear you with the bucks for a pro to even take a look for you maybe free or cheap to get some clue. Full serve A/C is plain NOT DIY friendly rather not doing things right wrecks things making it lots more difficult and expensive to get a real fix at seriously shocking costs depending on what. It's key to know system works when buying a vehicle as it's a huge expense and part of it's actual value working or not!
Get codes if possible anyway. I'd suggest as did ask if a full equipped A/C tech/shop will even give you a check to have a clue what the total of any and all issue would cost and if you want to take on what is found or not,
