2007 Honda CRV A/c problem

2007 Honda CRV A/c problem Sign In

Hello!
I have been chasing an a/c issue for a while now. the car would blow ice cold a/c and just randomly stop. After it did that for about a few months it finally did quit and never came back. took it to Firestone and all they did was put dye in it and told me to bring back to check for leaks. After chatting with a few other CRV owners they said they had the same problem and i was the expansion valve. I replaced valve and the pressure was reading fine at 40 PSI. Now the compressor The pressure is currently reading 150PSI on the low side because the compressor is not engaging. I did some diagnosing today and found that the compressor is not locked up and spins manually OK. I am however not getting any voltage to the compressor plug. I traced back to the relay which is getting 14 volts, I checked all fuses and they are good as well No leaks in the system. So my thoughts are the system is over charged and being shut off by the pressure switch it also may possible air in the system. What would be my next diagnoses step? or would it just need a proper refill.
I didn’t understand how it could be blowing ice cold one day at 40psi then completely stop and read 150+ PSI.

I'm afraid you are way above your pay grade here.

AC diagnosis is not a DIY job. It requires extensive knowledge of how refrigeration works and in some cases a lot of electrical knowledge.

There are dozens of reasons for the compressor to not come on. The PCM controls the relay and looks at numerous things before allowing the relay to come on.

You need a competent AC tech and believe me, he's doesn't work at Firestone. Experimenting here can do serious damage to your car. You can turn a small problem into a very expensive one with one mistake.

Late to chime in. Shocked if even some chain place an A/C real tech just put dye in it as it may or may not have that already?

A/C seems to have defaulted to OFF no power to compressor hence no fan until engine needs it or ordinary engine cooling.

Just know still most reasons will be a leak 1st and DIYers will just try to add or check, scour the web what to do and how get lousy suggestions bc you asked or A/C anything is such an algorithm of observations right when and where something isn't going right come up with take the pressures and not warned not to do a thing so fast.

But folks do then is the problem. Systems hold so little refrigerant you really can't own equipment to just evacuate what's in it + know what came out and charge exact amount back see if it works or not within perimeters. Just that know how and machines outcast anyone for one time fixes.

Take the advice and find qualified help with that equipment and credentials to use it! That shop independent or wherever found able to boast can take it on if only a diagnosis and cost estimate up front.

Just do your homework for the help IDK that star rating bull has gone sour folks upset it's costly and is - even fast and easy fixes if so found.

Best is also a day actual air temps are real 75F to ~90F live right then and there proves the fix works or not.

Note > I'm West of Boston OMG it's June last check, high 40s @ night been real 100F moments of afternoons for a couple weeks now a bit late or those swings NORMAL usually short lived to do that.

That's not helpful for performance testing of a moving machine just to prove it does need anything or lots yet!!

Good luck - job for you is find the right shop and the right tech(s) 1st, a quote or at least plan to address this.

U can look for dye now follow all lines for even visible oily evidence on items carrying refrigerant, ALL of them that you can point out what you find to that shop, tell them history of what you've observed if elusive more diagnostic time - allow for that.
