The Auto Climate control system is terrible. In cold/hot months it either blows too cold or too hot. It never maintains a comfortable temperature, even when using the system in manual mode. Temp outside could be at 35 degrees and the "Auto climate control system" could be set at 80 degrees and it will still blow cold air. I have to turn it up to 90 in order for heat. It then becomes too hot and then turn it down to around 80 and then the cold air will blow. It's very difficult to find the correct setting for this system.

Is there a solution to the problem, please?

Just a thought for starters. Is there anything in the way of the car sensing the interior temp? Things like a cup holder or papers on dash anything aftermarket? I don't know where the pick up is for the car but it usually is a small grid or screen somewhere near center top of dash. I've owned many ATC cars and don't like the feature as it just can't re-think what I really want it to do. Try deicing a car covered in frozen rain and the interior thinks its warm enough but you are trying to get an inch of ice off all the windows with the warmest air you can get and it cuts down on you while you are still scraping away outside! Arggh!

Tom,

There is round "button" sensor at the top of the dashboard which, I believe, reads the inside temperature. There is nothing blocking it.

I even asked the Saturn dealer about the problem. He researched it, made some phone calls to headquarters, but did not come up with a solution. It is a common problem with the 2003 Saturns L200's only.

Hi,

Let me know what ends up solving this or makes it livable. I don't have the answer for you but it would be nice to know about this. I'm up to my keister in MVAC stuff on the web and a quirk with one model of one car would be neat info for others,

Tom,

I think I just figured out a workaround for this heating problem.
The heating system seems to react well when I increase my interior
thermostat setting in 10 degree increments. So, starting at the
minimum of 60 degrees, when I increase it to 70 degrees, then to
80 degrees, and finally to the maximum of 90 degrees, I can feel
the heater's temperature get warm, warmer, and then hot!

I am not sure about the "in-between" temperature settings (i.e,
67-degrees, 73 degrees, 84 degrees, etc.), but for now, I am
a lot more satisfied.

Thanks for your inspiration, Tom! Wink

I have the same problem with my wife's car. Last spring we took it into the local Saturn Scammer and they reloaded the heater software with a newer version of calibration data.

Whatever that means.

It worked until summer. Now that we need it again, Oh no!

This time they say the software is OK and they want $400 for a new control head.

Whatever than means.

They have been taking us to the cleaners. Stuff keeps breaking on that POS and I can't get out of their shop for less than $2000! Now they tell me the factory had sent it out the new cal data for all cars. Yet, I was charged for it?

We will not pay them another dime.

If I crank it to 90 degrees it will push out the heat but it quits when I turn it down. My wife says that is just fine, we can drive with a window open.

I bought a real car, last week, a Crown Victoria so the Saturd is no longer our primary car. I'm an old ET so I am going to work on it. I will need the heater/ac schematics. It appears to be intermittent. Related to temp sensor as a couple earlier posters suggested?

I don't even want the climate control part to work. It has never been right. Just give me cool when I set it and give me heat when I set it!

Please post anything you find out and I will do the same.
