Can a rear ac be installed on a 2001 Chevy Suburban if it did not come with one from the factory? If so, what would the cost be?

Thanks.

I'm not sure if they even make a kit like that but the cost would be prohibitive. It would mean replacing thousands of dollars in parts.

It would require

  1. complete rear a/c unit with mounting hardware
  2. different rear trim to accommodate it along with all ducting
  3. rear switch assembly
  4. front switch assembly
  5. new wiring harness
  6. different front manifold hose assembly
  7. different accumulator
  8. different liquid line

Totally cost prohibitive as said!

Hey - there's only so many BTUs a single compressor can make so rear air is just essentially spreading it around which you could do with a fan!

(edit to say next Suburban or similar GM to have a problem with rear air will be plugged off as they are such a pill to fix and so much $$ - leave the fan)

The cost would be high.

The only cost effective way would be to go to a wrecking yard, find the same year & model & use all the parts off that.

That is definitely a job I wouldn't want to be doing...There would be a lot of work & rewiring to do...........

Laugh - family has owned and owns more Suburbans than I can count with clothes on!

Two were front only and fine. The others cost tons to fix when lines were an issue and so forth.

Why would anyone want rear air? Limos (I job I once took on as nobody wanted to touch them) just blow air from YES a second evap behind front seat!

Just move the air as said earlier. Take the headache of the century out!
