My 2000 Pontiac Grand am GT is overheating and im getting no heat from my heater. I've tried just adding coolant but it hasnt helped. I took it in to the mechanic and he thought i needed a new thermostat but was goin to charge an insane ammount. Could it be anything other than the thermostat? Or should i try and replace it myself?

Guess: Air in system (exhaust gasses) due to blown head and head gasket in the cards??
