2000 Montero Sport AC Unit Blows Warm Air Sign In

My 2000 Montero Sport ES 3.0 in Jacksonville, FL is having air conditioner problems, since last summer.

The unit started to blow warm air last summer year so I checked the freon level and it was fine, but I ended up putting some in to make sure there was enough. it became over charged and stayed that way for about a month, then I ended up removing all the freon and putting in the new type of freon they have on the market along with the oil that is supposed to be in the AC system.

it ran fine until about two weeks ago and now it only blows warm air and everything seems to check out. When I turn the AC unit on it does blow and the engine does idle a little higher.

Since the system is not leaking and it is obviously turning on, what do you think the problem is?

I don't know what you put in there but there is not new accepted refrigerant for that vehicle. It came with R134A and that is still the only acceptable refrigerant that can be used in it. If you have put something else in there, then the first thing you need to do is empty the system and do a complete evacuation and recharge from scratch. If it's been running overcharged, then you may have done permanent damage to the compressor.

Ditto: Tank - what made you think you knew it was "full" and that adding more to make sure was a good idea? That's about the worst move you could make without a lot of observations. You probably just killed tons more than was the issue to begin with as Hammer said. A/C is not for marginal DIYer IMO. As already said - unless you can't get 134a without a certification this should stay 134a only,

T
