2000 Cherokee won't heat up. Sign In

My 2000 Jeep Cherokee doesn't want to heat up. It gets barely warm. 4.0 liter, 6 cylinder, 4 wheel drive. We flushed out the heater core twice, seemed to help a little last year, but not much. It's cold again and now i need help. We had a new water pump put on and the radiator flushed out last year and I believe that's when the problem started. Any suggestions will be welcomed. Thank You.

Are you saying the engine doesn't warm up?

Will the temp stay at one spot when warmed up?

You said this all happened with flush job, radiator and water pump. I'm guessing you had the thermostat out in the course of flushing?

Till I hear more I'd blame the thermostat or the installation of it as the fault,

The engine warms up but the inside of the car won't heat up, defroster won't defrost, well a little bit but not enough to see out at all. It's almost better to turn the heater off because it is basically blowing out cool air instead of warm. The temperature gauge registers that the engine is heating up fine. Thanks for the quick reply.

You said this all started with a new water pump?? What engine does this have?

Can you feel along heater hoses for a sudden drop in temp and report that - carefully please!
Note: Source is usually near water pump and the smaller of two size heater hoses if not the same ID.

Some OE inlet hoses will use a restrictor out of your sight to slow flow such as to NOT blow up a heater core with pressure - dunno on this vehicle if they did that.

I'm a bit caught up in that this started all at once with a new water pump. May need to go back and look - compare that one with another to see whether it has proper impeller or some goofy fault - not funny right now as it's dang cold!
