2000 Altima cools down while driving Sign In

My 2000 nissan Altima with 60000 miles on it cools down while I am driving. I replaced the thermostat and the problem still exists. While driving in stop and go traffic I have no problem at all. When driving at highway speeds 55+ on a cool day it will cool down below cold mark on the temp gauge. The heater air will cool down at the same pace. Car will warm slightly if I turn heater off. Not very practical though. Any help would be appreciated.

This still suggests the thermostat is not closing tightly for whatever reason as there shouldn't be warmed coolant in the radiator to cool like that if it stayed shut as intended.

What happens at speed is two things. The load on engine increases creating ample heat at the same time air flow of moving along is either adequate on it's own or bolstered by electric fan but wouldn't lower engine temp if it war circulating to radiator which should cease below it's rating.

Thermostats can slip when installed or possibly hang up somehow and not shut tight enough. A very small amount of coolant getting past one in cold weather is enough to lower overall engine temp,

Thanks Tom. I fixed this issue by reading some other replies of yours. It turned out the mix of antifreeze and water was wrong. I had a mix of 100% antifreeze in the cooling system. Apparently you shouldnt do that. I did a 50/50 blend and the problem went away.
