I have a 2001 cavalier and when i put the a/c on it blows cold out if the drivers side vent and hot from the middle vents and hot from the passanger side vent. if i switch the control to the defrost vent it blows cold from the vent on the dashboard under the winshield. Pleas help !!

A low charge can do this but usually the driver's side suffers first? Taking pressures (both) will help determine the state of charge.

Also possible is oil from a leak on evaporator that has collected dirt and can't transfer heat well on one side. If that is leaking you will probably find oil residue in the drain tube for the evaporator on firewall underhood area near center,
