1999 Cadillac Seville STS 4.6 HVAC Blower Motor Not Working Sign In

The blower motor on my 1999 Cadillac Seville 4.6L is working intermittently. When you try to turn on the heat or ac the blower comes on intermittently. Sometimes it will work fine for days adn then other times it won't work for a week. Sometimes you turn the car on and it won't work and then later when you are driving it comes on. It is completely random when it comes on. I took it to the dealer to have it looked at and they said it was blower motor control module. I replaced the module and it is still doing the same thing. Any idea what I should test or try nex??

This may not need overthinking and be a plain blower motor problem. If you can locate it and bump on it with the plastic end of a screwdriver or easy with a tap with something and it starts right up (when down and should be running) the motor itself would be highly suspect. Caddys do have tons of electronic controls for things but it's still a plain motor under all that magic they do,

Re: 1999 Cadillac Seville STS 4.6 HVAC Blower Motor Not Working Sign In

Ok, I have the same problem with my 2001 Seville STS. The HVAC blower motor works intermittently. I have replaced the blower, the blower control module, and the climate control box itself under the radio. What else is left? Are there any relays I may be overlooking. If so, where are they located. I've checked the fuses and they seem fine. I've wiggled all the wiring harnesses around to see if there was a poor conection somewhere, but no luck there. With all of these new parts, it operates just as before...intermittently. I have noticed though that when it is working, as the engine heats up, the blower is much more likely to stop in warm weather than if the weather is cold outside. I do occasionally wash the engine off with the hose, but if it were a water problem, I would expect it to dry out. I do have a code P0410, but that's for the emissions system. No other codes come up. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

OK: I doubt the code has to do with intermittent blower motor at all. I don't know this one specifically but most if mounted to plastic housing of distribution box will have one fastener that is dedicated to be ground. It might just be a band of metal or an uninsulated wire. separate from the plug ins. I'm guessing as to exactly how this is done but the flare to the motor housing should be constant ground. If you can just put a jumper wire from that to known body ground and problem goes away then I would just add one permanently. Dash metal parts are bolted to body metal and can have intermittent grounding but that if wrong would near certainly cause other issues too,

Need to follow Toms advise & verify those grounds 1st.

But there are also a few other things it could be. Now I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but if I remember right I believe that also has steering wheel controls that route via the DIM and that the front motor speed controled is thru the IPM. Basically once you've verified the circuits to good it helps to have a Tech II scan tool to do some bi directional controlling......

You've pulled codes out of the PCM. If you're scan tool can access the other modules you might see if they are setting any codes that might help out.....

Re: 1999 Cadillac Seville STS 4.6 HVAC Blower Motor Not Working Sign In

Thanks guys. It was indeed a bad ground wire. I removed the panel to access the blower wires to run the jumper test and started looking around at the harnesses and other wiring. I found a small plastic "block" with six or seven black wire leading to it. It was bolted directly to the metal doorframe on the passenger side. I wiggled the wires and sure enough I was able to start and stop the fan. The blower wire was pretty hot and had some plastic fouling the connection. Cleaned it all up and now it works great...also, sorry for the double post Tom. Thanks again!!
