1997 Chrysler Sebring Blower Fan Issues Sign In

It's a 97 Chrysler Sebring coupe 2.5L with around 130K miles. About 6 months ago the blower fan suddenly went out with no warning. The condenser fan would still kick on, and I could feel the AC running, but there was no response from the blower fan. About 30 minutes later, it would come on low and medium-low, but if I turned it any higher it shut off again. An hour after that, it started working normally again and I hadn't had any problems until yesterday. It shut off again and this time refused to come back on. I tested the resistor and it's good. I tested the fan and it's good. I checked the temperature control panel and it's good. After a few hours of taking apart the interior, I tried it again and it came on low and medium-low, but shut off at higher settings then stopped coming on lower settings. I'm completely stumped, if anyone knows what could be causing this problem, I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Hmmm? TMK blower is getting full battery voltage when on high and would work if the motor itself was going would likely work better at the higher settings as resistor is lowering power to it. When resistors fail many will still work on highest setting as it's not being resisted.

I'm suspecting the switch for blower request is the fault and would test for power going to it and thru it to the resistor. Fuses dont heal and fusible links don't heal either if used and blown. Relays can be a fault and send along less than they should or nothing but you would see that with a common test light,

Thanks for the reply.
I tested the wiring with a multimeter. I was getting around 12 volts to the blower with it disconnected, but when I connected it, the reading went to 0. Could the relay be shutting off when the blower draws too much current?

That usually means a poor connection somewhere.

Looks like it was a poor connection, I fixed it by running a new line from the ignition wire.

Thanks for the quick responses, now I won't have to suffer through the Florida summer.
