1996 grand am with the small 4 cyclider, think 2.4L or something. The a/c was blowing hot, and clutch was not engaging. Stickers all over say 134A. Put two 12 ounce cans of freon in low side. Now cooling very little, and clutch engages for a little while and as soon as I idle up motor it disengages. When I hooked up the first can notice some freon expleled so figure system must have had some already in it.When I turn car off and restart clutch engages fine. Noticed later as I drove down to store as I stopped could hearclutch was engaged, seemed like "may have been" cooling little better, but very little if so, when running down the road. Dont want to overcharge. Do have acess to freon gages, where my dads, but not sure what preassur Ishould have or if gagues would even hook up.

You can't just arbitrarily add refrigerant like that. First offf, all air has to be drawn out prior to adding refrigerant and then it has to be an exact amount of charge. Too little is a problem and too much is a problem. You also need to monitor the high pressure side during the whole process to recognize a problem occurring.
Your probably doing more damage to your system than good.
