The fan will work perfect for months and then not work for days and then suddenly work again. What can cause this???

Could be several things. There's a fan switch that's temp sensitive that could be the issue. Any wiring that's intermittent or just maybe the fan motor is losing it. With a glove - all things off and keys out will it spin nicely by hand?
Anything noted about it - wobble, indications of heat? There should also be a relay and some or most use physical points to make contact and those can be intermittent. Testing is near futile unless you have one in the act and a whack with a screwdriver handle will snap it to that's almost a sure bet the relay is a problem,
