my heater and a/c worked when i bought the car and continued working after i installed a new stereo. but now it just up and quit. i can use my manual defrost button for heat but i can't use any of my preset buttons or my a/c button and my display screen won't turn on. i can't adjust the temp either. its like to hole system is dead. i have checked to make sure i didn't cut any wires that plug into the back of the unit and i don't think i cut any ground for it but it acts like there is. its like it won't turn on. can i fix it or do i need to get another unit?

Surely you've ruled out blow fuses - right?

From there if you were careful with NOT cutting into wiring then maybe a common ground did get interrupted. Might just be a screw from metal to dash metal and not a wire at all. This is all guessing but likely related to the stereo job even though it worked right away ok.

Carefully add ground with jumper wire (with clip ends) to what should be known ground from what is known ground.

Careful with test lights but back powering them show what is active ground. If you find that a jumper ground makes all work again then I'll say it's ok to add a ground strap out of harm's way as it might be tricky to find where the intended grounding lost contact,
