1975 olds cutlass 5.7 A/C compressor wire on back of compressor Sign In

I have purchased a reman Murray #57092 compressor and on the back of my old compressor there is a wire connected, the new compressor does not have the provisions for a wire. it appears that i could remove a snap ring and swap the cartridge but am hesitant to disturb the new compressor. Is that wire necessary? it connects to one of the two wires that go to the front of the compressor.

That is a pressure switch that needs to be transferred to the new compressor.

Further warning, if this car had a compressor failure you may ruin the new compressor if you don't make sure the debris from the compressor didn't land in other components. You also need to adjust the oil level in the compressor to account for what is being done.

Right it's a "temp" switch you don't get a new one as HT said. Swap it or it won't kick on.

Easy on snap right that other is just a plug for IDK something that didn't use the thermal switch. It hot or pressure (?) would trip it.

Do not screw up hole it goes into or "O'' ring! Plain bubble check that with any pressure in system a good idea,
Tom

That's definitely a pressure switch but let me add one more thing.

The failure rate on these reman compressors is about 60%, especially if you don't replace the condenser. I will not use one no matter what the cost.

True! Does OP know if the OE condenser is still used in this? 1975 could take a shotgun and not leak! It wasn't HE unless changed out then it would be now?

152a set to replace R-12 or IDK on something this old have to look and see it this far back,
Tom
