won't start on first try

2001 Ford Explorer Sport 70,000 miles
Truck won't start on the first try-cold. I tried yesterday and it started on the 4th try. I tried this morning, 2nd try, again at lunch and started right up.
Interior lights work, check engine light is not on. I took it to Auto Zone and no codes popped up.

The first thing I would do is hook up a fuel pressure gauge before starting it and see what the fuel pressure is doing when this happens.
