When should you replace your serpentine belt? I have heard the newer mfg. belts do not show wear with cracks.

Yes, they do. You just have to either bend them backwards and look where it wraps on a back side pulley. You need good eyesight and a good light and you will see numerous fine cracks if it's time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

A rule of thumbs on most serpentine belts is replace if a rib is torn or if there are ten cracks per inch

Hammer has listed the most accurate way to check a belt. There is on most tensioners a set of wear indicators stamped on the pivot of the tensioner .I have colored the lines to make them easier to see ,on a actual unit they are not . A belt is considered ok as long as the yellow line is between the green and red lines . As the belt ages it stretches and the arm moves in direction of arrow till it is at red. Not totaly accurate but it gives you a quick reference. LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH
