Search Auto Parts Search well worn front spindles...need fix Sign up here!   Email This Post Auto Repair Home>> Automotive Repair>> Car Troubleshooting spikey New User Feb 12, 2008, 9:21 PM Post #1 of 3 (2861 views) well worn front spindles...need fix Sign In how can i repair my worn front spindles on my 2000 ford e350 van? there are 2 grooves that have been cut into my spindles were the dust seal from the front rotor rides. these grooves are allowing the grease from inside the wheel bearing to seap out and get onto my rotors and allowing water to seap into my inner wheel bearings causing them to wear out prematurely. i have heard that you can buy a spindle repair kit with sleeves and new seals...any truth to that?? Don't let that stop you from looking though. In a lifetime I've only seen this happen when hubs have been submerged in water. Damage is done and if this needs to be submerged for some reason it would need "bearing buddies" used for boat trailers. Unless beyond cleaning up such that the spindle doesn't just tear up a new seal I'd work with what is there. I'd remove all grease from hub and bearings and use highly moisture resistant grease (synthetic and for marine use)and just enough for the bearings and coat surfaces of hub and spindle to prevent rust/corrosion. I've seen seals that are cheap and ones with a spring in them that tolerate deviances much better. I doubt they are listed as such so I'd ask at a parts counter to look at some. You just know they will be a bit more $$ and probably made in USA or Canada and they should be able to tell you that. That and since this is already trouble I'd drill the smallest hole possible in the dust cap in the center as a vent such that the pressure of warming up doesn't push grease out the inner seal. Periodic checks and refresh the job could last indefinately. I'm not looking at the extent of existing damage so that's up to you of course. We have used them on crankshafts before with good results. Yhere may be some for spindles. All you need is the diameter of the spindle and get the part. It goes on very tightly and gives seals a smooth place tpo ride.
