I have a 03 Grand Prix with the 3.8 motor. It has 105,000 miles and runs pretty good. I want this car to last as long as possible and was wondering if Valvoline Max life synthetic is worth the price. I currently use NAPA 10w-30 with the Napa Gold filters. I switch to 5w-30 in winter to help with -20 F morning starts.

You'll ask 100 people and get 100 different opinions. I use synthetic in both of my vehicles, and sell it at work. That said, if a person changes their oil and filter regularily, 3mos/3000 miles, I'm not so sure that switching to synthetic is that great of an idea. A slick salesman sold me on the synthetic when both of my rigs were fairly new, so I've stuck with it. I keep it in stock for the few people that request it. Being in the business, I've always changed my oil and filter every 2000 miles and never owned a vehicle that used or leaked oil. Now, I change every 5K. Mainly, because of the expense. <sigh>. My truck holds 7 qts. @ $7.50qt. Ouch. It's your call, of course.

Just wanted to add that Amsoil (our site sponsor) makes some great lubrication products. Wink
