I have a dodge grand caravan. I turn of the key and it won't even try to turn over. When I try to jump it, I just get the clicking sound all the gauges and electronics in the dash/radio come on. I can not jump it and get it wworking. My mechanic had fixed the issue previously by showing me where to hit it on the dash. Later replaced the main cluster to try to fix it. A week later the same problem. Any ideas of what it might be?

Beating the dash may vent stress but won't start this. First off check your connections on both power and ground. These vans like to corrode posts faster than normal since the shape of the body tends to concentrate acid fumes. Also why the driver's side strut tower likes to rot through. Your connections must be clean shiny and tight. You also need to have your battery tested to be sure it is capable of taking a charge and delivering enough amperage. You should also tell us what year and engine size you have. The crystal ball is in the shop for an overhaul at the moment.

These vans have multiple computers and a ton of relays that really get finicky when not given exactly the amount of power they want. They can be power hogs and your battery must be in good shape or all sorts of gremlins rear their ugly heads quickly.

Re: van wont start Sign In

It is a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. If I remember correctly the engine is 3.8-liter V6. Today, I cleaned the posts and terminals with a wire brush and dry cloth then put them back. I changed the battery within the last 6 months but don't have a way to get it to an autoparts store to test the battery at the moment. On a side note, my buddy came over while I was out and hooked up his obd 2 scanner. It read "p1698 no ccd messages from tcm". He said it means there is a loose connection likely and checked the places that he could without tools.
