truck won't start for 2 days then starts right up 3rd day Sign In

I have a 1998 Chevy, 5.7, Auto. Saturday I go out to start truck it rotates but won't start, same thing on Sunday. Battery is good, getting spark, I don't hear fuel pump(replaced 2006) buzzing to prime. I check relay fuse under hood, i can feel it clicking when turn key on. I go out this morning(monday) and she starts right up on first turn of key?! I drive her around, doesn't hesitate or stall on me. I come back home, turn off, starts right back up. I can hear the pump priming when turn key on now. I wait 4-5 hours and try to start again, starts right up. Going to let her sit overnight see what happens in morning. Does anyone have any idea why truck wouldn't start Saturday or Sunday but started right up this morning? What do I need to check? Help if can.

Intermittent like this makes exact diagnosis a pill as what would you blame when it does just start right up and behave. For what it's worth I've been seeing and hearing of more problems with corrosion at connections to fuel pump and gauge that have caused intermittent problems so that's a place to look??

thanks for reply. would i need to drop the tank and check pump? or is there a harness somewhere under hood? i've never been good at diagnosis.

The ones I'm thinking of are at the tank and I don't know if you can get at those with tank in place. A shop I work with has found several now there and showed me just the connections as they had already replaced them so they were just cut ends when I saw them - didn't know what was involved but one was in the course of changing out a fuel pump which did require removing the tank. That job wasn't mine - the pump was wildly noisy and had strange starting problems like yours AND a fuel gauge that was erratic. Changing out the pump which came with new plug fixed all of the above - wires didn't make the pumps screech as it was so it was needed. Owner wasn't complaining so much about other problems??
