im towing my 68 mustang (rolling shell) to the nearest body shop (approx 3-4 miles) with a A-Frame Tow bar.
i see the RV's use these tow bars to tow their family cars behind.
my question is do i tie off(secure) the steering wheel so the front wheels dont wander left and right while following behind the tow vehicle?

Hey dmac,
Tried that "A" frame unit to haul a car over 2,000 miles once and didn't only because it felt too funky from the tow car. It was rentable from U-Haul. Other types no doubt are that hold wheels off ground which would be preferred for this especially since steering wheel isn't a locking type. Yes - when cars with non locking steering were towed back when tow truck driver's would tie up the wheels to the best bet of strong metal - sometimes the pillar for a vent window.
If you can get one of those steering wheel to brake pedal locks it would be more secure IMO.
More: Bumper of the Mustang wasn't too impressive strength wise as I recall. Use your judgement on the security of how it attaches and feels.
I'd opt for the front wheels off the ground on it's own mini trailer type thing for just that many miles and not worry about the trans for that short a trip. If you can run the engine before the trip if it's been a long time it would be better for the trans.
