My timing belt broke today on my 1995 Ford Escort LX station wagon. I understand it has a non-interference engine so that it would not be damaged. Of course only after the new timing belt is installed will I know for sure.
Anyway, the dealer to where I had it towed said he would recommend having the water pump and drive belt and pulley replaced at the same time as the timing belt. Four items total. I think there is merit in that since some of the parts will have to be removed to get at the timing belt.

My question, however, is this: What is a fair price for this job? Does anyone with this experience have an idea of what would be acceptable?

At the dealer the rate is about 90 to 100 dlls a flat rate hour. Be ready to pay for 3 to 4 hrs of labor plus the cost of parts. sorry.
