My boyfriend has a 2004 chevy trailblazer and its acting odd....whenever he turns on the air the car acts really sluggish and sometimes even will die it seems to run alright when the air is not going. Anyway he got it checked out and they couldnt really tell what the problem was then they said they think its the throttle sensor so my question is, is there just a throttle sensor that he should replace or does he need to replace the whole throttle and do you know how much the parts would be and where we might be able to find them at a cheap price

That's a "drive by wire" system so don't expect anything to be cheap. Sounds like they are just guessing anyway.

Try cleaning the throttle body and throttle plate with some throttle body cleaner and a tooth brush. A lot of times cleaning the throttle body solves low idling and stalling on the 4.2L. You don't have to take it off to clean it.
You and your BF can clean it together which is highly romantic.

how would one know if the throttle body won't be damaged by gumout or other solvents,? The suggestion was to clean it with throttle body cleaner. Nobody mentioned "other solvents" but if you wish to use laundry detergent or battery acid or guess you could get in trouble!

If it was a TPS problem it wouldn't only do that with the ac turned on. The check engine light/reduced power message would be on and the throttle control would be limited or disabled for a TPS problem.
They probably changed out a battery or discharged a battery and recharged it causing the PCM to lose idle control learn. PCM tries to relearn on a dirty throttle body and it causes stalling when the ac is turned on and /or low idle speed and hard starting.
I would try cleaning the throttle first and seeing if that resolves the problem instead of slapping on a $330 part.

Let me ask you this. What would you do if a customer came to your shop with this complaint and there was no check engine light or stored trouble codes? Would you sell him/her a throttle body or attempt a cleaning first?

+1 on the cleaning the throttle body. if that doesnt work id suggest pulling the belt off and seeing if the a/c compressor spins by hand. sounds like its starting to go bad...

As usual, you're trying to make me the target. I had nothing to do with the diagnosis and in fact told the customer that the shop is likely just guessing. It should be diagnosed correctly. I didn't offer to clean a throttle body because no one has determined this problem has anything to do with a throttle body at all and his original complaint wasn't about low idle.
