still pulling to the right Sign In

Hello it's me again..95 t-bird is pulling to the right when braking. I replaced both rubber lines in front, still pulls. One more noteworthy item is that every time i have replaced something it actually seems to be ok for a few stops , maybe 5 or six then the problem comes back it also is not consistant , meaning sometimes it pulls harder then others some time not at all????Any advice would be greatly apprecieated. thank you

Re: still pulling to the right Sign In

Isn't this the car that you did a whole front brake job on? The hoses are a good thing to get out of the way as most folks forget those until they cause problems.

With that not the likely thing right now there is another. Sometimes the pads or hardware just don't free up. I've had to file off pads (metal part) so they fit better - even high quality stuff?? The contact areas do need to be free and lubed with proper brake lube. It doesn't take much for one to drag a little as the only real force that retracts them is the "O" ring of the piston just flexing back after it got pressure. Feel the wheels after a drive and note if they are the same temp. Bet they aren't. That one would be the problem of course if warm.

You did replace the calipers - right? It would be rare but there could be a problem with the new - almost always rebuilt one. I suppose there could be a problem with a wheel bearing but that should make some noise or growl and no freeplay is normal for them.

What else is possible?? Tires ok? If you move them front to back and the problem is gone there must be something with them. They can get a sawtooth feathering and have a different grip on the road.

Again.......... a rear brake really doesn't make a car pull much. I've had totally frozen wheel cylinders - just one back one and didn't notice it driving along. Doesn't matter if it's disc or drum on the back as they don't do the lion's share of the braking.

I guess alignment is a possibility too. If the pads on one side did get real hot they may show it and perhaps the grab force just isn't the same anymore.

How many miles are on these brakes now since they were done?

Re: still pulling to the right Sign In

problem solved...yes this was the car with the brake job done on it but the only thing i did not change was the rotors . i should have mentioned that.they did not look bad and size was in tolerance. but that must have been it i put new rotors on when i had it apart to check drag on caliper pins that you mentioned.... thanks for all your help
