steering wheel vibrates after timing belt replacement Sign In

Hi,

I recently brought my 2001 Subaru Legacy wagon to the dealership for suggested maintenance for a timing belt change (and also a regular oil change). The car has 103K miles and has been perfect (again, it was only brought in for suggested maintenance, not because it had a problem). Now, the steering wheel vibrates when turning. I brought it back ASAP and they said that it was due to a new belt on an older car and that all the tensions were correct. They flushed the power steering fluid which they said was dirty. The steering wheel still vibrates upon a hard (esp. left) turn. They said this would "go away". Is this true? Everything was fine prior to the maintenance. Any help would be welcome.

What's this bull about a new belt on an older car??!!Crazy This car isn't that old or that many miles. Something got screwed up and I don't agree with the comment that it will just go away.

Take a glance and the regular belts and see if they are looking ok or in line with engine idling,

Thanks Tom,

After spending $1000 it really fried my eggs that my car, which has been fantastic, should come back to me in worse condition. I don't tend to think people are dishonest, but I really felt like I was getting some BS....

Surely anyone would be upset at having routine preventative service done and the car comes back with a problem it didn't have. It could be a wild cooincidence but to be told it will just go away just doesn't jive. Something happened and they should take an interest in their work and their reputation in serving you well.

I hope you can get some satisfaction with the shop about this problem. Things can happen even when you do things right and techs that do this all the time know that,
