starter won't disengage Sign In

I have a 91 chevy truck with 350. Today the starter continued to crank the engine even after the engine started. I turned the key to off and removed the key and the engine kept on cranking. I put key back in and set to on and engine would restart. to avoid possible damage i again turned off engine-engine still cranking. Battery died in about 2 minutes. I disconnected battery and reconnected. charged battery and started truck. This time started did not continue to crank. I think there may be an ignition switch problem-- any help please?

It could have been an ignition switch problem but more likely a problem with the starter solenoid. The only way your going to diagnose that would be to disconnect the small purple wire at the starter while that is happening to isolate the starter. Even if it stops at that point, it's still possible to have a problem with the neutral safety switch shorting to power also.
