make sure the wire going to the starter isn't rubbed through the insulation anywhere and grounding to the frame.

If the battery cables are getting hot, that indicates high current flow so you may be looking at a bad starter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
