should fuel pump run with key in on position Sign In

1996 full size dodge van, 318 fuel injected
it wont start, good spark. I thought the pump ran with key on?
Mine pumps when cranking, I dropped the tank and removed fuel line.
I think its a wiring problem, last week if i hit a pot hole it cut out for a second.

help please

No the pump is not suppose to run with the ignition in the run position alone (engine not running).
When the ignition is turned on without cranking the engine; the fuel pump will run for approximately two seconds and then shuts off, that’s to prime the fuel system with pressure. After the “prime cycle” the pump will not run again, until the engine is cranked and the computer sees an rpm signal from the ignition system.
There’s a little more to this explanation but that’s more or less what’s supposed to happen.
