1990 subaru legacy wagon 2.2l awd 150,000 miles the car runs decent but when you stop & idle (in a parking lot or driveway)steam/smoke starts coming out of the hood by the radiator. temp gauge good,no leaks that i can see.fan works. what do you think?

Can you get a clue by the smell of it? If coolant it is distinct. Oils sometimes smell like bad exhaust.
See what if anything is low and keep looking. Coolant especially can shoot pinhole fine line leaks at something hot and don't always take much to make a scene and tricky to tell the source,
