I need some help from all you mechanics out there. I have a 2001 Ford Explorer and I have been experiencing some difficulties with a rear wheel or brake sticking. By sticking I mean it pretty much locks down and the only way I am able to move is by first backing up before going forward. When I try to go forward before going in reverse I can hear some wheels spinning but 1 just will hold the vehicle in place. Sometimes it will release and let me proceed but it takes flooring it. When I use reverse first, I hear a clunking noise from under the vehicle, possibly from that stuck wheel, maybe a brake spring hitting inside the wheel.
I have taken it the tire off a couple times now to inspect what is going on and there are all new parts in the braking system. Is there anyone who may have experienced this or knows of someone who has that might be able to tell me where to look. I questionned whether 1 of the new parts are functionning properly like a spring not releasing or the adjuster not working. But its hard to tell. Again I am not actually seeing what is causing the vehicle to experience this problem and right now any suggestions will be very helpful.

This may not be what you wanted to hear, as in a suggestion and I’m not questioning your abilities. But considering that you’ve had the wheels off a couple of times and cannot see the problem; it maybe time to take the truck in and have a technician look at it.
Brakes are brakes and you should never drive a vehicle when there is a doubt in your mind about them. You must care otherwise you wouldn’t be here asking these questions but I think you’re asking the wrong people. We can’t see or feel what is going on and it may take someone with the experience of working on/with brake issues to determine what the root cause is. This is just the safety aspect I’m talking about we won’t even begin on what this strain on the drive train maybe doing?
