rear water leak after accident repairs to front - related? Sign In

Hi
My 2009 Kia Rio2 Sport diesel 1400L hatchback was involved in a head-on with another car and was repaired recently at their cost. The 'hit' occured mostly to the front right (driver's) side of the car and was hard enough to sheer thru the steering mechanisms (amongst other obvious damage) and prevented the drivers door from opening at the time.
I've had the car back for 3 weeks now and have noticed a leak coming from the back passenger SRS (airbag) port which resulted in the spare wheel-well being filled up with water and the chrome fittings on that side of the boot beginning to rust, and the side of the seat waterlogged, so this has been happening for a few weeks (we HAVE had a lot of rain recently!)
My question is - would you say this leakage is the result of the accident - eg. something has been banged out of alignment and has compromised the seals?.
I can't see why the water is coming out of this particular area - except from the sunroof, which means those seals have been compromised perhaps? The repairer reckons this is just a coincidence and in his 15 years experience he doesn't think the accident has caused it. What say you?
Thanks
Bettyb9

Not there but IMO that's very related to the accident. Can't know every system with damage/insurance but would believe there is room and time for "unseen" damage and this would be it as evidenced by driver's door not right hard enough to mess up that door.

If you've ever seen a slow motion test collision at what goes nuts in a car and some just springs back you could explain almost anything going wrong after that.

Whatever avenue you used to get this paid for go back and claim this too and dry out water held in wheel well and rust fixed. Water could come from a distance from where it leaks to but let the auto body repair shop find that.

Good luck. Try not to take "no" for an answer,

T

Thanks so much, Tom, for your fast reply and support. I did what you suggested and they are going to have a look at their expense. I had already mentioned the crash test scenario to the mechanic I spoke to, who replied that he'd been in this business a long time and that in his experience cars are better built now to withstand such impacts and that it was unlikely that the leak is a result of the accident and asked if it could just be a coincidence. I didn't take NO for an answer! So thanks again and keepup the great work you do. It really helps those of us who have little or no other recourse to help when faced by 'blaggers' in the business.

You said up top that in his ever so long 15 years of experience! Holy crap - that's a nanosecond and then you just said that he said cars are built better now!! That's ignorance speaking. Yes - a while back cars had no real safety anything and would bust off utility poles and not crack a headlight now can't take a gentle bump from a shopping cart!

Many videos out there and will put one below. Just look at the whole body of a car wiggle and squirm when hit and much just springs back but not all. All those rubber seals, spot welds and everything to do with the car just got dropped like a box of light bulbs and who knows what survived unscathed? Wires that run along and thru body parts - the whole works. That's why they total out so many cars so easily today as they can become hopeless wonders that look great after repair with surprise issues down the road.

Here's a video but check out others you run across. This one is longer but only need see a minute or two of it...........

Good luck with the fix on yours and again "don't take 'NO' for an answer,

Tom
