You should be able to test for power and ground at a window defroster that is actually a decal ON the glass and easy to scrape off one, more or all or even wreck them with hard cleaning. Some can lose either connection as well for assorted reasons. Check that stuff before going too nuts. There is a kit to patch those but expect marginal results.
