rattling/knocking noise Sign In

Car makes a rattling noise at about 40mph... gets faster with speed (not rpm) until it fades away in engine noise.

Only present when accelerating with a steady gas. (let go of the gas pedal... noise is gone)

no noise when idle.

no noise when running off the ground (on the lift)

check the exhaust system visually and physically for any broken hangers. grab the COOL tailpipe and give it a wiggle. then lightly take a hammer to vairous spots and listen for noises.

then check your motor mounts, and transmission mounts. they might me shaking with the engine torque
