problem with Ford Thunderbird Sign In

I have a 1995 Ford thunderbird. its doing two weird things and no one seems to know whats going on. First when im driving the RPMs go up, way up for no reason. it sounds like it revs up on its own but the gas peddle is still in the same position. the car does not go faster or slower. Second when I go up a small hill at a slow speed there is kind of a grinding noise and the car shakes slightly. What could be wrong?

I so know whats going on with your car.. i just went through it with mine.. its like its racing..you could not press the gas and it will get up to like 50? its the idle something or another.. im soooo sorry i cant remember the name.. i want to say an idle regulator but i dont think thats it.. its a really little piece and it can either make you car race or it will bog it. hope this helps.. sorry i dont too much about car part names!

Re: problem with Ford Thunderbird Sign In

As a guess from your description, there may be a problem with the idle speed control motor causing the engine to rev up. This increase in engine speed should also increase the speed of the vehicle. Another part that may cause it is the transmission range sensor. If it is going bad it may allow the computer to believe it is in neutral can cause the reving up. As far as the grinding and shuddering, it will either be a bad spark plug, wire or coil. Maybe the torque converter in the trans is dirty and giving a shudder. It is common on Ford products.
