problem starting Sign In

2001 pontiac gran am security light comes on and have to let stand 10 minutes till light quites flashing then it will start Thanks for any help.Have to leave key on.

99.9% of the time it's a problem with the lock cylinder, most likely the pass-lock wires have started to split. It won't be long untill it's going to leave you sitting. And unless you have knowledge in sir systems and how to take apart a sterring column, i'd take it to a shop.

As Samg said, the most common problem is the key sensor in the column. I can give you a way to bypass that but it will only work if the key sensor was actually the problem.

If you find the black wire and the yellow wire from the passlock sensor in the column you can solder in a 2.2 K ohm resistor and then attempt to start the car.It will stall don't turn the ignition off.Let the ignition on for ten minutes or until the theft light goes out.Turn the key off for ten seconds then attempt to start the car.If it now runs you have been successful.If it doesn't you either made a mistake or there are other problems besides the ignition lock cylinder.
