Re: power windows Sign In

Turn the interior dome light on, ignition on, engine off and try the window switch while watching the dome light; if the dome light dims ever so slightly that tells you that the window motor is drawing power. Compare this dimming to a window that is still functioning and that is all the way up or down; just so you know what to look for with the right rear window.
If the light dims, you’re going inside the door to find out whether the window is jammed in its track, the gearing in the motor is jammed or the motor itself has lost its strength to lift the window. At this point it’s anyone’s guess.
If the dome light doesn’t dim it maybe a wiring or switch(s) problem and you may get the window to go up by jumpering the right rear switch connector with an outside power and ground source form the battery.
Get the switch out of the right rear door panel and disconnect the wiring harness. Take a jumper wire from battery positive to the red/yellow wire and then a second jumper wire from a good ground (battery Neg) to the yellow/red wire. If the motor and the other mechanisms inside the door are ok the window should move. My wiring diagram isn’t very clear as to which way to connect the jumpers for up or down so if the window tries to go down more or not move at all try switching the jumpers the other way around.
There are a few other scenarios as to what has happen but try these things and let us know what you find.
Dan.

Also, check the driver's door master switch to make sure the window lockout switch is not activated.

Good point Steve and I thought of that as well; didn’t mention it because tonyp wasn’t complaining about any other window not working.

That's OK. You and I were typing a reply to this post at the same time but you beat me to the button. When I put mine up yours was there already. We basically said the same thing so I edited mine down to just the lockout switch.LOL
Had to find a way to still get my 2 cents in.LOL

That dome light test is the first one I try before trying to find other equipment.

Re: power windows Sign In

Thank all of you the dome light trick put me on the right track.Window was stuck, but as I run the other window up/dn the left front window stopped moving. The motor will run,but window does not raise or lower.Does this mean I have a ruined gear on the motor? If so is it replaceable or does this mean a new motor? Thanks again all of you that replied....Tonyp

Re: power windows Sign In

Older Fords used a nylon gear that could strip out and could be replaced. The better replacement is about $25 bucks but you have to get that motor out, T
